Prof. Joshi is a medical doctor (MD) specializing in occupational medicine/hygiene and diabetology, with expertise in injury prevention and safety promotion. He also has a Ph.D. in public health and community medicine. He was awarded a Swedish Research Council Postdoctoral Fellowship at the European Centre of Gender Excellence, specializing in Thematic Gender Studies at Linköping University, Sweden.

He is currently Vice-Chancellor of Martyr Dasharath Chand University of Health Science in Geta, Kailali, Nepal, the country's first health sciences university. His previous role as the Head of the Department of Community Medicine at Kathmandu Medical College (KMC), Kathmandu University, involved teaching undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate (MD, Ph.D.) medical students, as well as mentoring students from various foreign universities. He holds visiting professorships at the Faculty of Health & AS, University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), UK; Faculty of Health Sciences, Linnaeus University (LnU), Sweden; Faculty of Health, Science and Technology, Nepal Open University, Nepal; and Faculty of Health and Well-Being, Sri Sri University (SSU), Odisha, India. Similarly, he is a departmental staff member at the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS), University of Oxford, UK.
